Why do so many MMA Fans Hate Brock Lesnar?
Brock Lesnar started his career in MMA and won his first fight in June 2007 at a K1 Dynamite event. He then signed with the UFC in October 2007 and was instantly introduced to MMA fans that were not to happy with the former WWE stars arrival into the MMA world. He lost his UFC debut against Frank Mir, but since that loss he has remained undefeated. He dominated Heath Herring in a unnanimous decision victory and despite the outcry from hardcore MMA fans he was given a shot and won the UFC Heavyweight Championship in a fight with Randy Couture. He avenged his loss to Mir by way of TKO at UFC 100, but his fighting career was put on hold, due to diverticulitis in late 2009. Lesnar returned to defeat the Interim UFC Heavyweight Champion Shane Carwin at UFC 116 via submission. He is currently set to face Cain Velasquez at UFC 121.
Many MMA fans do not care much for Brock Lesnar, I assume it is his arrogance and the fact that not many hard core fans like when the WWE,WWF is compared to the sport. I for one do not like the WWE comparison. Why you say?.. Because SPOILER ALERT- its fake and there are still quite a few people that think UFC,WWE, MMA are all the same thing. I prefer when MMA is discussed as a sport between professional Athletes instead of as a spectacle (ie James Toney pummeled).
I do not have any problems with some of the smack talk as long as it is not completely overboard. There is no doubt that Lesnar learned in the WWE that is does not matter if people pay to see you win or pay to see you lose, just that they pay to see you. Tito Ortiz was a master of generating interest in his fights with the same type of attitude.
Many people said that Lesnar was an amateur not deserving of an early shot at the title tend to forget Lesnar is an accomplished wrestler, winning the 2000 NCAA heavyweight wrestling championship and placing second in 1999, losing in the finals to future New England Patriots offensive lineman Stephen Neal.
In the beginning, I really did not care for Lesnar but I will admit that he really impressed me with his win over Shane Carwin. The win showed that not only was he strong physically but had the ability and heart to overcome adversity when he was on the losing end of the match.
Regardless if you like him or hate him, he has become a valuable asset to MMA. Brock has quickly put himself at the top of the MMA Heavyweight Div (not something he did running his mouth), continues to fill seats and generates a lot of interest and money that allows the sport of MMA to grow.
OK- Brock Haters it is your turn
