Soldiers Train For Combat Using MMA Fighting Techniques
I have posted four videos that show a little about how soldiers train for combat by learning MMA skills. The first video was produced by the military and talks about training with a Tazer. The remaining three are homemade videos and the second video comes from one of my training sessions. The Army is actually what introduced me to the world of MMA. If you have any questions about the Army Combatives program feel free to ask.
Shocking way to Train
This First video has soldiers grappling with a twist, A tazer is introduced to help keep the soldiers prepared for an enemy that could possibly have a weapon such as a knife. This is a great technique that provides a sense of reality when engaged with a real enemy. Only one of the soldiers has the taser so as you train you do not want to become complacent. At any time while rotating through training partners you might just get zapped.
My Training Video
The second video is from one of my training sessions at Ft. Drum NY.The training consists of a soldier who must continually defend himself against soldiers that are rotated in about every 30 seconds.
Punch Drill
This next video shows a female soldier take a hard shot, in the video the soldier is going through what we call the “punch drill” in Army Combatives. This drill is a requirement for certification at Level 1. The way it works is the soldier has to move in and obtain the clinch while trying to avoid or absorb strikes. You must be able to obtain the clinch two times before you pass that portion of certification. The drill is set up to help the soldiers overcome there fear of being hit and still be able to execute what they have been taught.
Training Match
This last video is a training match between two soldiers. During the training matches the soldiers can not strike, the way it works is you look to take your opponent down and work to a dominant position and finish with a submission hold. The match in this video ends with a quick armbar. This match gives you a look at one of the ways soldiers stay proficient and improve on the skills they have been taught.
