Herschal Walker Defeats Nagy, Was It Good for MMA?

Herschal Walker defeats Greg Nagy via 3rd round TKO in his MMA debut with the Strikeforce Promotion on Saturday.  I really think Strikeforce got it wrong with this matchup,  they may have generated interest but unfortunately I think it did more harm then good in the long run. Some are saying Walker was able to get  ESPN, CNN and newspapers to give more media attention to MMA and introduce the sport to new fans.  I can not help but wonder  what the people  who tuned in just for that bout were thinking when they see this  47 year old football player come in and dominate this supposed MMA fighter.  I just do not see how it was all that great to give the false impression that MMA fighters can be easily beaten  by middle age athletes. I wish Nudge had put up a better fight or that a more aggressive fighter had been picked to face Walker.  I did not expect Nagy to fight like a top level fighter, but I would have liked to have seen a better fight.  Nagy was a terrible representation of MMA and any true fan knows that.

Unfortunately for the true fan the Lashley/Sims (did anyone really think Sims was there to fight) and the matching of Herschel Walker with the unknown Greg Nagy pushed a legitimate contender match of Riggs/Hieron to a Internet stream.  Thank goodnes for Nick Diaz and Cris Cyborg but I am starting to wonder if Strikeforce is running out of legitimate prospects to put together skilled interesting and competitive MMA matchups………
